A little Italian Sandwich
One of my favorite meals in Italy was at this little sandwich shop in Florence - serving up simple sandwiches on the freshest bread since 1875! Wow - that's older than some universities in this country. They had a long list of sandwiches - maybe 25 or 30 - most with only 2 or 3 ingredients.
The first time we went (okay, it was so good, we went back a second time), we both had the #1 - prosciutto and soft cheese - and that's exactly what it was. No mustard, mayo, onions, nothing in the way of the fabulous treat Italian cheeses and pork products are on your tongue. The bread crispy on the outside and super soft in the middle. And not too big. No, this was a sandwich which was not too filling or too bready. It was really my ideal sandwich. And pared with a glass of chianti for 4 euro - perfecto! The second time we were a bit more adventurous - I got a sun-dried tomato and goat cheese and my traveling companion got one of the anchovie varietals. Again, both simple, made in 60 seconds or less, and delicious.
